(Type of test) Twice a year - Check Thorough / Other months - Check Standard - Start.
(Windows XP reg) Start - My Computer - Right click on C drive - Properties - Tools (Tab) - Check Now... - Check (Automatically fix file system errors) -
Start.
Check (Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors) twice a year.
(Windows XP classic) Click My Computer (on desktop) - Right click on C drive - Properties - Tools (Tab) - Check Now - Check (Automatically fix file system errors) - Start.
Check (Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors) twice a year.
3. (Windows 98) Start – Programs – Accessories – System Tools – Disk Defragmenter - OK.
(Windows XP) Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk
Defragmenter - Highlight volume C: - Action - Defragment.
4. (Windows 98 only) Start – Run – sfc (Enter) or OK – Start
If sfc finds any files that are corrupted, click OK OK OK till it replaces the
corrupted file.
If Scan Disk and Defragmenter will not run because other programs are
running, restart in safe mode. Restart computer and hold down Ctrl key, or
start pressing the F8 key after you see writing on the screen. At the menu
select Safe Mode.
